DOLLY AWARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPANTS 2017/2018
(Screenwriting with Pictures)

Article 1. The MATTADOR Cultural Association organises the 4st DOLLY International Award “Screenwriting with Pictures” dedicated to Matteo Caenazzo, a young talented artist from Trieste who died prematurely on 28th June 2009 while studying and working with the aim of embarking on a career as a screenwriter.

The Award aims at discovering and recognising young talents who decide to start a professional and artistic career in screenwriting. It is intended to encourage the writing of stories by using images that should be a captivating, moving and free expression both in terms of lifestyle and artistic attitude. It is in line with Matteo’s keen perception of the world today, conveying the idea of ironic, synthetic and razor sharp art.

Article 2. DOLLY Award “Screenwriting with Pictures” is intended for Italian and foreign designers and illustrators aged from 16 to 29 by 15th April 2018. The Award is aimed to stimulate young authors who have a narrative and artistic ability to portray a story visually.

Article 3. Each participant may submit a maximum of one work. Only original and unpublished works will be accepted, which means they must have been neither produced, published or awarded a prize before. The subject is free.

Article 4. The images used to illustrate the plot should be the creative starting point in view of implementing a movie project. They should consist in a set of sketches and/or drawings which would convey the idea of the characters, settings and situations which will be later channelled into the film project and screenplay. A storyboard is not requested as this is part of a more advanced professional phase, usually taking place after the screenwriting and before the shooting.

The plates may be accompanied by descriptions, notes and a synopsis of a maximum of one page.

The plates may be drawn up by using any manual or digital technique, in white and black or colour. The set of pictures shall include a minimum of five to a maximum of ten plates and be presented in sequential order in a pdf file.

WORKS SUBMITTED IN A DIFFERENT FORMAT WILL BE DISCARDED.

Article 5. Works shall be submitted in the Italian version and/or in the original version with a translation into Italian.

Article 6. . Works must be sent in digital version only (on a CD using .pdf format) in a sealed anonymous envelope by 15th April 2018 to the following address: PREMIO DOLLY 2017/2018 - CASELLA POSTALE 1392 – UFFICIO POSTALE TRIESTE 3 - Piazza Verdi 2 - 34121 TRIESTE – ITALY (The postmarked date will be taken as legal recognition).

PROJECTS WHICH DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE DISCARDED..

Article 7. By sending the script, the author accepts the present Terms and Conditions for participants. Neither the Organising Committee nor the MATTADOR Cultural Association are liable for any responsibility or cost deriving from the existence of copyrights owed to any third party. The authors authorise the organisers of the DOLLY International Award “Screenwriting with Pictures” to publish the screenplay submitted in a collection and/or a catalogue. Works submitted to the MATTADOR Award will not be returned.

Article 8. The Competition will award the DOLLY PRIZE for the best story portrayed through pictures. The winner will receive a Training Grant and will be assisted by professional tutors in developing the story and taking it to an advanced level by drawing up a professional dossier illustrating the full narrative and visual potential of the film project. At the end of the training programme, depending on the commitment and achievement of the work, the tutors will be in the position to decide whether to award an additional prize of 1.000 euros (one thousand euros).
